How to Start Your Own SMM Panel Business in 2026 (Step-by-Step with Costs)

Most "how to start an SMM panel" guides online are either thin SEO bait or pitches to buy a $500 nulled PHP script. This is the real playbook from someone who's helped four operators launch panels in the last year.

Step 1: Legal setup (week 1-3, ₹12,000-25,000)

Register an Indian Pvt Ltd via Vakilsearch, LegalRaasta, or directly through MCA. You need this for payment gateway underwriting later.

You'll need:

  • Two directors (you + spouse/parent works)
  • DSC + DIN for each director
  • Registered office address (your home is fine)

Get GST registration in parallel — mandatory once you cross ₹20L turnover.

Step 2: Tech stack — build vs buy

Option A: Perfect Panel SaaS — $50/mo, scales by order count. Generic UI, no differentiation. Skip.

Option B: Custom build — ₹3-15L dev cost (or DIY if you can code). Full ownership, modern stack, real differentiation. This is what we recommend.

Option C: Nulled PHP script — looks cheap, but every one we've audited had backdoors. Hard skip.

Step 3: Upstream provider integration (week 2-4)

Connect 3-5 providers minimum for redundancy:

This is the longest step. Apply for:

  • PayU or CCAvenue (Indian cards) — 2-4 week underwriting
  • Decentro or UroPay (native UPI) — 1-2 weeks
  • NowPayments (crypto) — same day, no underwriting

DO NOT apply to Razorpay/Cashfree as your sole gateway — they restrict SMM merchants. DO NOT touch Stripe — they explicitly prohibit.

Step 5: Pricing strategy

Industry markup norms:

  • Followers: 100-200% over wholesale
  • Likes/views: 150-250%
  • Quality services with refill: 200-300%

You'll be competing with hundreds of panels — don't race to the lowest price. Compete on UX, payment options, language localization (Hindi/Tamil/Bengali UI is a moat in India).

Step 6: Marketing (ongoing)

  • SEO content — long-form guides on "buy [service]", "best [platform] SMM", comparison pieces
  • Telegram presence — answer questions in /r/SMMA-style groups, become known
  • YouTube tutorials — "how to use SMM panel" videos with your referral
  • Affiliate program — 20-30% recurring drives both backlinks and word-of-mouth

Real economics

  • Month 1-3: ₹0-20k revenue while you find product-market fit
  • Month 4-8: ₹50k-2L/month once SEO kicks in
  • Month 9-12: ₹2-10L/month if you've nailed positioning

Break-even with a custom build at ~80 paying customers per month at average ₹500 spend.

Common pitfalls

  1. Single payment gateway — they freeze, you're dead
  2. No 60-day operating reserve outside the gateway — keep one
  3. Skipping the legal entity — payment underwriters won't approve you
  4. Cheap-only positioning — you can't beat JAP on price, ever
