How engagement rate is calculated
Engagement rate = (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ followers × 100. Pick a recent post, sum its interactions, divide by your follower count, multiply by 100. That's your engagement rate as a percentage.
2026 benchmarks by platform
- Instagram: 0.5–2% is healthy. Above 3% is exceptional. Below 0.3% suggests stale audience or shadow-ban.
- TikTok: 5–9% is healthy. Above 12% is exceptional.
- YouTube: 2–5% is healthy (likes ÷ views). Comments-to-views ratio > 0.5% means active audience.
- Twitter / X: 0.05–0.2% is normal. Above 0.5% is exceptional.
- LinkedIn: 2–4% is healthy (much higher than Insta because of professional reach).
How to improve it
- Post at consistent times (engagement drops when posting is irregular)
- Reply to every comment within the first hour
- Use carousel posts on Instagram (3-4× the engagement of single images)
- End every post with a question to invite comments
- Run short-form video over static — that's where every algorithm rewards engagement most
